About Singapore

Singapore is comprised of one main island (617.1 sq km) and some 63 offshore islands. Among the offshore islands, the larger ones are Pulau Tekong (2365.5 hectares), Pulau Ubin (1023.9 hectares) and Sentosa (460 hectares).

Singapore is a parliamentary democracy led by the People's Action Party (PAP).  The current Prime Minister is Lee Hsien Loong.  Formerly a British colony, Singapore briefly became part of the Federation of Malaya, Sarawak and Borneo (Sabah) in 1963, but achieved full independence in 1965.  Singapore’s national day is celebrated on 9th August.
